West Hills Honda has received this award for improving the environmental performance of its operations by measurably reducing energy and water use while enhancing their environmentally responsible business operations.
"The Honda Environmental Leadership Award is something I have been working toward for 10
years
for the
West Hills Honda store. We started back in 2011 with single stream recycling and documenting our
waste
oil and battery disposal and our water and electricity usage, then, our efforts graduated to the
owner
investing in the conversion of all our lighting to LED and monitoring the savings. This is truly a
realization of our focused efforts."
-Rob Colon, COO
West Hills Honda has earned the Gold Award for achieving environmental targets based on a verified reduction in energy use and a rigorous point system developed specifically for dealerships that incorporates environmental improvement measures. Honda partners with third-party licensed professional engineers to evaluate dealerships’ environmental performance and recommend additional strategies for reducing their environmental impact.
Honda introduced its voluntary “Green Dealer” program to its U.S. automobile dealers in fall 2011, and later extended the program to its independently owned powersports and power equipment dealers. “Since the program’s launch, our Honda dealers have collectively reduced CO2 emissions by more than 133,000 metric tons – equivalent to eliminating the CO2 emissions from over 22,000 homes’ electricity use for a year – and saved more than $26 million in energy costs,” said Annika Swenson, Honda Environmental Leadership Program Manager. “We’re proud that so many of our dealers are joining Honda in taking these important actions to reduce our environmental footprint.”
For over three decades, Honda has been working to reduce the environmental impact of its products, manufacturing and logistics operations, and facilities in North America. These initiatives are reported annually in the Honda North American Environmental Report. Expanding its environmental initiatives to the Honda dealer network was a logical step in the company’s effort to reduce waste, energy use, and CO2 emissions across the full spectrum of its operations and throughout the lifecycle of Honda products, including at the point of sale.
Honda’s vision for a carbon-free society is leading to comprehensive efforts to address society's environmental and energy concerns across the company’s products and business operations. Honda has the highest fleet average fuel economy and lowest CO2 emissions of any major full-line automaker in America, according to the latest data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Honda also is working to reduce the environmental impact of its business operations and promotes environmentally responsible business practices with its suppliers and retail dealer partners across North America.
