The Haselwood Family YMCA currently supports over 200 foster children during the school year and that number will increase to 400+ during the summer. With the support of donors each foster child gains a sense of belonging. The YMCA does this through offering a FREE membership to all foster children through the age of 18. No matter what family or location they are at, they are YMCA members. Each foster child receives a YMCA membership card with their name on it, they also receive a FREE age-appropriate backpack which pajamas, toiletries, a book, school supplies and more!
Foster children and all children can participate in youth programs like toddler gym, sports skills, art classes, dance classes, youth sports, swim lessons, summer camp, preschool, late night program for middle school and high school students and much more.
The Haselwood Family YMCA is so much more than a swim and gym. We offer child care, distance learning (during this pandemic), nearly 50 group fitness classes, virtual options, community café’s which give people an opportunity to socialize, diabetes prevention and more. One program I sharing is LiveStrong. For those of you unfamiliar with Livestrong at the Y, it assists those who are living with, through or beyond cancer to regain strength and connect with other cancer survivors. Participants experience improved fitness and quality of life as well as significant decreases in cancer-related fatigue.
This 12-week program is subsidized by donations. Particpants work with a certified coach/trainer who helps participants build strength and balance while gaining a support group. No one is judged in this group but everyone is supported. Entrenched in the community since 2011, the Haselwood YMCA features more than 270 weekly group exercise and water exercise classes as well as youth an adult swim lessons seven days a week.
The Haselwood
YMCA also provides community outreach and partners with various service agencies throughout Kitsap
County to
ensure total health of the community in spirit, mind, and body.
When you join the Haselwood Family YMCA,
you
join more than just a gym.
